Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC)

Survey of FAC research and FAC prevention guidelines
Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) is a condition of corrosion that occurs in piping systems given very specific conditions.  FAC causes wall thinning of piping, vessels and other steel components.  It results from the dissolution of the normally protective oxide layer on the surface of carbon steel when exposed to flow water or wet steam.  The presentation attached to this article provides a survey of the research on the conditions that increase the risk of FAC and provides guidance of detection and prevention strategies.
